Talk to me about being part time and bank holidays please

Because I'm confused.

I'm not sure how this can be right.

So I work part time, 50%, and therefore my bank holidays are pro rata too. Fair enough. So I get 4 bank holidays a year. Now, I normally work on Mondays and the office closes. So I use those 4 bank holidays and have to use 4 days from my annual leave allocation to cover the rest of it. Whereas part time colleagues who don't work on Mondays don't need to worry about it, and can use their annual leave allocation as they wish.

Am I not being penalised?

if you go on the calculator I linked to above it says that for someone working 25 hours per week they are entitled to 140 hours of annual leave

I employ both full and part time staff and some them are required to work on call on Bank Holidays. So I offer all my staff a choice if you are not working on a bank holiday you can either use one day of annual leave or have it as unpaid leave.
So you can have all of your holiday entitlement to use when you like, but you don't get paid or bank holidays. Interestingly since introducing this more staff have joined the on call rota to be available to work.

QOD: Almost all workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday per year (known as statutory leave entitlement or annual leave). An employer can include bank holidays as part of statutory annual leave.
