foolproof Advertising

i run a new small gallery and i need to get the word out that im here and listed on twitter, Facebook, and advertise locally with several publications.

is there anything you do that get attention. Any help would be appreciated.

Sponsor an event, maybe host an open evening, hook up with local produce providers for say cheese and wine viewings? Initial outlay costs though maybe.

we are doing a charity event later in the year, maybe something sooner.

don't really have lots of cash flow either

Depending on your space, could you host an Easter hunt for kids? My local library has small numbered chicks hidden on pictures, doorframes etc. If you spot them all you get a lolly.

Might get some footfall?

good idea but i run a small gallery so Easter egg hunt may not be the best with glass pottery and expensive paintings

First you need to figure out what your gallery is offering that is different/better and would attract people to visit.
Just "being there"/on the radar is not enough. I know of lots of things that are near me but are irrelevant or not interesting and so I don't go there.
There is no point advertising unless you have a clear and compelling message...do you know what sets the service you are offering apart? Can it be expressed on a flyer?

My usp is only dealing in original art. No prints or reproductions. I know there is no one lically to where we are doing this.

I have a website it was one of the first thing I did, looked at adwords yesterday and seemed very pricey,

sorry i might have known u would have one already - still no harm in asking.
I also tried google adwords for mine and it was very expensive on a regular monthly basis; I did seem to get a little more work but not sure if it balanced out.
mainly I just received an awful lot of CVs from unimaginative people looking for work.
however it did seem to push me up the rankings.
have you investigated SEO and so on?

sorry if i am stating the obvs., but who are you aiming it at? where do they socialise?

The main clientele in malvern I would say is the older more mature woman, with maybe a smattering if tourists.

So we are aiming at them.

As for seo if you search for iur name its the first thing on Google or gallery in great malvern we are about 2 or 3rd in the list. Cant see how it could be better exept if I used paid f8r advertising which isnt cheap.

Why is such a simple thing so hard.

Is it affordable original art? That would be v compelling.
Do you think the older/mature woman you are aiming for uses google a lot? What do you reckon she's searching for?

If I were you I would think about what a typical consumer for you sees & does in a day. Does she go to the local supermarket? Which hairdressers does she frequent etc? I would put my flyers there with affordable original art, and local friendly gallery on them, BIG. Do a free coffee morning or something to hook them in.

Yes thats what we are aiming for, most are around the 250 mark prices range from 40 - 900

Ill think ill do that with the flyers thanks.

can you display some stuff in upmarket coffee shops? I quite often see paintings for sale in the kind of places my mum likes to have coffee/lunch.
Insurance might be a problem with that though.

We did ask our insurance company about it and they said no chance to that. Its a pain tbh.

We did book a window in the local tourist information, and might do it again.

Malvern is a tourist town, could you put adspace in any tourist brochures like those that advertise accommodation and things to do?

Also, its great that on google you come up 2nd or 3rd if people put your name in. But you need to be found by people who don't know your name, who might google 'paintings in Malvern' etc.

Who is your website hosted with? When I was self employed mine was with 1and1 and they do a very good basic seo package which I found worked well as I hadn't much competition. It was cheap, about £30 a month inc the website builder and hosting package.

Could you get some good photos taken of some of your pictures and hang them in the right sort of cafe? Obviously with your blurb on and permission from the artist.

Is that your gallery on Youtube? That's something I wouldn't have thought of.
