Negotiating a part time job from a full time post

I know that this has been asked before but I'd really like to hear from those of you who have succeeded in an interview for a full time post then asked for it to be part time.

I've got an interview with an FE college next week that is advertised FT but would like to work PT only. At what stage of the selection process should I mention this? At the interview or when a job offer is iminent?

Many thanks

sorry no advice but would also be interested to hear about this as I am in the same position! Have 2nd interview for a job on Friday which is advertised as full time, and I am part time at the moment!I am not even sure whether to mention it on fri (interview is with personnel) or leave it until they've offered me the job, if they do at all!

I mentioned it to the recruitment agent because I did not want to psyche myself up for an interview if the company was not even prepared to consider part time arrangements.

As it turned out, the company chose to interview me. And I used the interview to suss out the job spec as much as the interviewer used it to suss me out. I personally was not convinced that the company had thought things through and at the end of the day, they would be expecting me to do a FT job for PT hours and pay.

So I did not continue with the process.

Boogiewoogie, if you accept a FT job and after you have started apply for flexible working, the company is only obliged to consider the application but can still refuse it for "business reasons". Then you will be stuck with a FT job. I would be quite upfront about wanting PT hours if you are not prepared to do FT hours. It is as much about not wasting your time as the company's.

I would mention it in the job application or at the latest the interview.

job share information
It's a long shot I know, but I am looking for a job share in west london/ surrey area within the property profession. Does anyone have any opportunities/ contacts that are going back to work/ have returned and want to go part time?

My background is commercial portfolio/ estate management but was property director/ board member of large company with direct staff of 40+ so can turn my hand to many things. Am open to ideas- the key is part tiem and local. And enough money to at least cover child care.

All the best, boogiewoogie. I know it is very hard to find a pt position but so worth it if you can.

boogie-woogie. I've had this. ime I wouldn't mention it to HR-type people - ie the ones handling your application - they tend to like everything in neat boxes and not realise that the people actually interviewing you who are going to work with you might be willing to be flexible. I had an interview recently and I said - right at the end - would you consider offering this on the basis of less than 5 days a week. It puts them on the spot a bit - but in my case they were very open to it (I didn;t get the job, but that was other reasons). I think the thing to do though is decide whether you would consider 5 days. If the answer to that is no, then make it clear to them - either at the interview, or before hand. If you want to make it clear before hand then speak to the person interviewing you/your potential boss and just say that you wanted to ask before the interview, because you can't work 5 days and you don;t want to waste anyone's time. Personally I think it's best to do it before you get the job offer.
