Do b untgil c comes along. Don't leave yourself out of pocket, very few jobs are worth it.

SoupDragon · 16/03/2004 18:20

Can you work the extra hours necessary to bring you up to 16hrs? I assume this would mean extra childcare thoguh.

fio2 · 16/03/2004 18:20

cant you get working family tax credit now your circumstances have changed...surely you can

fio2 · 16/03/2004 18:23

sorry sb didnt read your post properly and am guessing the entitlements are the WFTC, just ignore me.

nutcracker · 16/03/2004 18:24

TBH i think it is a stupid rule. I applied for a job of 15 hours an ended up having to turn it down becuase i wouldn't get any childcare costs.

I would do D until C comes along.

You could always update your skills whilst your not working. All courses should then be free.
Can't remember what you do for a living so feel free to ignore if not appropriate

well I would carry on working, so it shows commitment on your cv whilst you look for something more suitable. Thats unless you want to be a sahm, then I would do that. Not much help sorry

I'd do whichever makes you happiest.
If there aren't any more hours available in this job then could you get another job so your total hours are 16+. You could do something completely different and find that you really enjoy it.

Have you got a friend who will say that you work for her as a cleaner/ dog-walker/ baby-sitter or whatever, for the extra hours, to make it up to the sixteen hours? You have to make sure it's at minimum wage so it doesn't affect other tax stuff, but it's been done before and worked...

I had the same problem as you last year - job was fourteen hours per week, and I asked them to put it up to 16, for no extra pay, as I would be better off. No questions asked, they did it.

Mirage · 17/03/2004 23:05

I'm self employed & was told that any work I carried out at home,ie research ect was counted towards my total hours, also traveling to & from jobs, preparation, quotes ect.

Not sure if this will help, but hope it does.I think the dog walking/babysitting /cleaning suggestion was very good too!

Good luck
