Would you pay for someone to come and help organise your life?

Just that really. I'm looking for a career change and want to become a professional organiser. I would go to someone's house and help with anything from dealing with mail, filing, organising office space, administration, correspondence to decluttering and downsizing.
Clients would be the busy (working or SAHP) or elderly or vulnerable or absent for long periods (e.g working abroad). What do you think about paying for that sort of service?

almondblossom - I think I shall judge the effectiveness of the tutoring I give my friend's son by (a) his enthusiasm to have me help him (he asked me without even checking with his parents first) (b) his greatly improved results at school. Anything else seems superfluous...

Fully aware where Bonsoir lives....

makes me wonder why some of us spend 4 years gaining the right training, if all I had to do was find a friendly child whose parents didn't want anyone trained, but just wafted in with cups of tea . And without knowing how to measure attainment, using the assessment tests, it's not possible to measure progress accurately.

Maybe, almondblossom, you are underestimating my skill set?

The child in question speaks 5 languages (four of which I also speak) and I regularly rely on his knowledge of two languages other than English to reinforce grammar and syntax. It is very hard going for him to learn in the way school requires, by memorising lessons from a text book alone in his bedroom, but he is extremely able when it comes to comparing and contrasting languages with another plurilingual person.

I have also been considering a career change (currently a police officer) and have been thinking of setting up a similar service (I must say I am considering many things at the moment, so who knows what I'll end up doing!!). Similarly I have been stuck on the point of whether people would pay (enough) for this service. I guess it depends where you live? I am home counties in a fairly affluent area (I'm the odd one out without a 4x4!) and I'm still unsure as to whether people would pay.

Wishing you all the best with your venture and plans!

I would recommend to anyone considering starting a business to get a job even just for 3 or 4 weeks for a company first doing whatever that thing is that you might start. Eg if you want to start a tutoring agency get a job with an existing agency, ditto concierge services just so you can see how it is from an existing firm's point of view first.
