Working from home as a freelance book-keeper/accounts - Can it work ?

I am sick to death of those ridiculous piece-work scams which rip you off left right and centre, and I'm looking for a genuine work from home career which will enable to me to still be a SAHM (to a certain extent) and also excercise my mushy brain

There seems to be reasonable call for it around here and the financial rewards seem to be fairly good. I'll gain a fully recognised professional qualification before I enter the field so this needs to work in the long term.

Do any of you do this (or know someone who does) and what are the pros, cons and potential pitfalls involved ?

No one out there working from home in financial services then ? Does that mean I've got the market all to myself ???!!!

DH looked at this (not very seriously - the lazy swine) but the thing that worried him and me most was the professional negligence aspect of it - didn't want someone suing him for loads of dosh when he'd only be earning a comparatively small amount. We didn't ever research it properly though. If you are going to do it I think you would need to think carefully about the scope and ambit of what you offer, the terms of your engagement letter, and about the availability of insurance.

I don't do that sort of work but I do work from home. The thing I would say is that you do need childcare as well.

WSM, if you don't get any replies from mumsnetters I have a friend who started doing this from home a year or so ago. I'm sure she wouldn't mind having a chat with you. She's not a mumsnetter but she's still nice

I work from too but not in financial services. My accountant is self-employed/works from home though and seems to be really busy.

Main hurdle is, of course, getting the business in the first place and mi is right - you have to have proper childcare.

Thanks, looks like I'll need to do more research
