I am newly divorced as of Jan 2014. Up to the point of my divorce I was a SAHM for many years. I have four children at various ages the youngest being 13 years old.
I qualified as an accountant prior to stopping work falling in love and foolishly making myself financially dependent
I intended to go back to work. But life didn’t quite work out as planned. My childcare ie mum and dad in fact required my support and so contributed to my absence from the world of work (both are now dead, I was their carer for many years).
As a result I have not worked as an accountant since 1998.
[I currently work as a weekend carer, I needed the money and do a good job. Care agency management have said that they are happy to provide references.]
I now want need to find a job/spring start a career in order to meet the challenges of the next stage of my life.
How do I make my way back into accountancy, is it even possible? Has MNer done so in a similar circumstances?
Prior to marriage etc, I worked in industry as a financial accountant/financial controller.
Unfortunately, I do not have experience of Pivot tables/Sage software, due to the size of the company antiquated I worked for prior to stopping work.
I cannot afford to spend money on training courses: how would an employer look on completion of a training course without professional experience?
I am happy to travel as part of my work responsibilities (youngest is able to go for sleepovers and/or be looked over by older siblings). I have no plans to have any more children and would really like (need) to have a career.
I am ACCA qualified with full membership. Is it enough? Are there other avenues I could realistically pursue?
I sent an email to my association asking for advice many moons ago, they have yet to respond
My idea is to write a covering letter with my CV explaining that I am qualified accountant but would like to be considered for part qual/junior auditor roles due to my circumstances etc? Is that likely to get any a positive response?
I would especially welcome comments from those in practice who hire/fire.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
