I'm going back to work soon after bavk to back maternity leave, I will have been off 18 months, going back to the same job. My hours are 9-5 but I want to change hours to 8-4 so I can be home in time to see my daughter before she goes to bed and it will allow dh to get a part time evening job (he is a sahp) more easily. Do you think this is reasonable if me and what's the best way to go about it? If it means anything they once let me change to 8.30-4.30 just so I could get the earlier train, pre marriage and kids. I've worked there nearly 7 years.

Yes you should thank your boss for doing you a favour by employing you in the first place and offer to work for free. Hmm

Ha!
Does anyone know if there is a time period or anything that I have to go back? Things aren't working out as I hoped so might start looking for another job but don't want to leave if it will get me in trouble. Ie after back to back maternity leave is there a minimum amount of time I can go back before handing in my notice? Thanks

Hiya!
I think you may have to check your employment contract to see what your notice period is. I am in a similar position, whilst on maternity leave my firm has been involved in various unethical practices and I no longer feel comfortable working there so will be handing in my notice. I think my contract states i have to give 2 weeks notice and I have 4 weeks maternity left so will just wait until the last two weeks and submit my notice. Smile

No minimum time unless they paid you enhanced benefits on maternity leave, in which case you may have to
Pay them back. Just your normal notice period. Assume you would go back then start looking?

How have you been off for 18 months?
Do you otherwise enjoy your job - you say you're on good terms? As the main earner I think you're being quite foolish leaving a job you enjoy and presumably is secure for the aake of half an hour

StealthPolarBear · 04/04/2014 10:56

Have you worked in many other jobs? I wonder if you're expecting the grass to be greener

TheDoctrineOfSnatch · 04/04/2014 11:18

Yy stealth - OP, a new job has no obligation to consider a flexible working request for a while,
