Got told I'm too junior for a job! Argh!!

I just got told by HR for a job applied for that they liked me but I'm too junior and would need 2/3 years more of experience before getting this type of job. Fair enough they are probably right but then don't advertise the job as a 'assistant' position when actually it's manager level!

I got to the last 2 candidates and feel the 2nd interview was a waste of everyone's time. They have my ,CV they knew I was junior before...and breathe

I really liked the place it would have been a step up but I thought I could do it otherwise I wouldn't have applied

I have another final round interview next week and it's going to be the same

Not sure how to get the experience that I'm lacking without someone giving me a promotion. Since I'm about to be made redundant from my current job it's not going to at my current employees.

Anyone else caught in a similar work catch 22?

It sounds like you did really well and I suspect that the reason you got to 2nd interview was a) because they liked you and b) to explore more about your experience/gaps in experience both in it's own right and vs the other short listed candidates. Definitely not a waste of time.

I'm glad your last post sounds more positive. I realise it's not easy to relax when facing redundancy but honestly it sounds like you are heading in the right direction and this company's comment re a future opportunity should be valued and cultivated. Your next interview may be for a role where the team have more room to "grow" somebody so don't think you're stuck even now.
