Leave the security of a Permanent Job?

Hi Everyone

I am new to these forums so a big hello. I just wondered what people thought about my predicament. My little girl has just turned 1 and I am now back at work in my old job. I used to be full time but have dropped to 4 days a week. However I still find this too long to be away from my little angel and it's tearing me apart.

I have the opportunity to work at another organisation for 2 days a week which would be ideal however it will only be temporary for 9 months. Should I leave the security of my permanent job at the moment but working hours I don't want for this temporary job with hours I do want?

My other worry is that we would like to try for another baby in the winter and I would be leaving the security of maternity in my current role as well.

If she's 1 she'll be in school at 5 you'll need a steady career then.so no I wouldn't give up work

I'm afraid I would consider it too risky too but I am very risk adverse.

The benefits of a boring job for a large organisation on moderate pay have been really brought home to me recently.

My sister's ds is seriously ill, she (DSis) has been signed off with stress, almost indefinitely. She will be paid for 12 months by her employer. Her DH is self-employed...

Also some of the things that weren't quite perfect that I put up with workwise when my DSs were small mean that we are in a far better financial position now than we would have been if I'd reduced my hours more when they were little

Is your little girl in nursery or with cm? I'm sure if you ask her care providers they'll tell you she has lots of fun there.

Can you request to do some hours from home maybe?

If you werent' going to be planning to get pregnant again it might not be too much of an issue - but if you are planning another period of maternity leave i'd suggest staying where you are.

I'm just returning to the work force after a period of maternity leave and am considering contracts (I've been made redundant) as I'm not having any more kids but no way would I consider them when I left my last job, as I knew I'd be getting pregnant again as soon as my body cooperated.

Once your daughter is a little older, you'll find there are more benefits to being in nursery part time to being at home full time, in terms of development and opportunities for socialisation.
