notice periods

Oh another dilemma.

I absolutely HATE my current role, have been bullied there and ideally want to leave ASAP, maybe even just leave and temp.

Some roles come up and say they want immediate or almost immediate start. I could quite easily fudge this and "go sick with stress" for 2 weeks of notice period, my doctor would sign off I am sure.

Is this advisable yes or no?

No. Any decent new employer will wait for you to serve your notice. If they won't wait you probably don't want to work for them. And if your existing employer finds you are working for someone else when signed off sick they could take action against you.

thanks atmywitsend - I am thinking and then will have to bite my vipers tongue of stuff to say to them when I leave....

I've just about had enough, 2.5 years of bullying and almost 4 years of service for which I get little or no thanks.

prh47bridge - I know about what my existing employer could or could not do but I've just about had it up to here.

2 weeks notice is almost immediate. It won't put someone off hiring you

I agree that most decent employers will wait.

However, telling current employer to get bent and just refusing to work the notice period is unlikely (although not guaranteed) to be fine. They cannot force you to work if you are unwilling. You can just leave. Current employer's remedy would be to go to court and seek compensation for any financial loss (e.g. hiring a temp, at a higher rate than they would have been paying you). For two weeks, most employers are likely to consider this more trouble than it is worth. Of course, this means that you won't get paid for the notice period. If you are prepared to take the risk (in most cases small) of the employer pursuing you for compensation, you could just walk.

euro - it depends now if I do get a job offer. If I do then stuff them I will give little or no notice just going on how I have been treated (which is badly).

why should I make life easier for my pig of a boss and his equally PITA PA??

You will need a reference from them so I'd strongly suggest biting your lip until you've got another job, unless you want to address the issues you have with your current employer.
