I wonder if anyone has any information on receiving SMS when you are self employed. I am contemplating having a 3rd child and am now self employed, will I receive anything from the goverment during the late stages of pregnancy and during the first few months before returning to work. If so, how much? Any info will be greatly recieved!

Try this...
www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits/statutory_maternity_pay.asp
If they don't have the information you need, it might point you in the right direction

Sorry, don't know how to do links so you will have to cut and paste the address.

There's the link - anniediv's address had had the underscores removed and turned into underlining.

THink you don't get SMA, but can claim Maternity Allowance if you have paid NI.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/07/2006 15:19

You'll get maternity allowance of £106 per week for 26 weeks.

Jobalus · 14/08/2006 13:56

Maternity Allowance is £108.85 / week (went up in April).Whether or not you get it does, though, depend on how much NI you've paid. Jobcentre plus can help ( www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk/JCP/Customers/WorkingAgeBenefits/Dev_007956.xml.html )
