Not "going back to work" but don't know where else to post...
DD2 (16) thinks she might want to be a counsellor. I think she'd be good at it.

What qualifications/skills/training would she need? Would she need a degree?

It's fairly unusual to train as a counsellor at such a young age. One good way into the profession is to volunteer to get some experience to begin with. You don't necessarily need a degree. There are lots of different levels of qualifications. She could start by having a look at the bacp website

Thank you majestic. I'll show her the link. I wondered whether something like Psychology or Philosophy might be a good degree before going on to counselling training.

If she does a psychology degree, she could then go on to train as a Clinical or Counselling psychologist. Both end up with a Dr title. It's a long training though, and quite tough. Does she have any decent careers advice at school?

Yes, there is a careers service at her school. She's just doing AS levels, and her tutor has also advised her to make an appointment with the careers advisor. She's going to do that next week.
