son age 16 - job interview - what should he wear

My son of 16 years old is looking for a job.
He has applied at a fancy leisure centre. If he does get an interview, should he wear his prom suit or just a shirt and tie.
I don't want him to look overdressed, but I do want him to stand out and have a chance of getting this job.

I have interviewed lots of teenagers for a retail job. I would be happy with shirt and tie suit would be too over dressed (and would make me think his mum had had a bit too much input) I would also be happy with smart trousers and a polo shirt. What is the interview for?

Sorry just read is at a leisure centre, shirt and tie or polo shirt would be fine.

For Him to stand out I would want him to be chatty, smile and be polite and have a good reason for applying - not I needed the money or my mum told me to :o

Aw. Just wanted to say good luck to your DS!

i'd say either shirt and tie or smart t-shirt and suit jacket. either is fine. i personally think the latter looks better and shows more personal style and confidence in presenting oneself than the former that looks like school uniform.

good luck to him. tell him to remember it's a conversation and to be really friendly and attentive at all stages - from reception, to the walk to the interview room etc. seem interested and tuned in.

I think it depends on how fancy the Leisure Centre is, and how comfortable he feels in his suit. I think that a candidate who has obviously made an effort by wearing a suit does stand out.
Good luck to him!

My D'S is 17 now but when he went for interviews he always insisted in wearing a suit and tie.
