How long from Tax Return to Payment

Angie1978 · 06/01/2014 12:33

First Tax Return filled in for 2012-2013 done online(feeling very pleased with myself!), but I was just wondering how long does it take for the tax office to actually pay out?

Many Thanks

Well done! You should receive your payment within 2 to 6 weeks of submitting your return :-)

Oh god - what have I done wrong? I had to pay them - quite a lot of money. T'would be grand if they had to pay me Grin

you've done nothing wrong, most of us have to pay them but for those where tax is owed (usually through overpayment) then HMRC will issue payments out in the 2 to 6 weeks after submission.

Haha - DS is still waiting from November!

Shame on me, how on earth did i miss the 'most' word in front of payments on my above comment!! lol, yes sometimes they take longer but generally speaking, its about 2 to 6 weeks...I would follow up with them if you are still waiting from November, make sure any chq's havent been lost in the mail or anything like that

Usually hd gets his within about 10 - 21 days ( for the last 8 years)

Mine last September was 4 days... I don't think they are always that quick though!

He has followed it up Aussie - several times - he was going to use it to buy his Christmas presents! Grin

They said they'd made a mistake (mid Dec) and it would be another six weeks. He's now had two letters, one saying they've re-calculated and the second which is an exact copy, but has handwritten notes on to (presumably) a colleague at HMRC. Such efficiency! Grin
