I need to leave teaching but wtf else can I do?

I need to work and have always loved teaching.

Over recent years, I have developed several chronic illnesses that have become worse with time & are aggravated by stress. I have had significant time off work which, I think, will make it difficult to be employed elsewhere.

I am being hounded at work now & know my boss has asked people behind my back if they want to make a formal complaint about me (they don't) but I really feel like I am being pushed out. Capability proceedings have been mentioned in passing & although there is no reason for me to be put on capability, it is now an easy way to get a teacher out. I have been in touch with my union & I am just biding my time now, waiting to see what will happen next. I think work are waiting for me to be off sick again, so they can push for me to leave on the grounds of ill health.

WTF do I do? Teaching does make me ill but I don't want to do anything else. I have no skills, no training in anything else.

Fridayschild - I agree with your comments re the independent sector. I was going to type something similar.

Don't go to FE - it's just as bad, often worse. My DH teaches in FE, is a good, conscientious teacher and is being pressurised by the SLT with an obvious agenda, given frequent internal inspections with no notice ... only the friends of the SLT score well ... recently he was failed due to a typo on his lesson plan - which the students wouldn't even see!
Like schools, but far less professional, with less training and less support.

How about Portage trust home visiting? I think it's a service to assist pre school age children with sn. Help to make the transition into school and with development /age approp. educational activities.

I don't think the pay is awesome but it sounds like a rewarding thing to do,y'know like what teaching used to be...

Sorry don't know more details.

Poor you!

Can you do supply? My friend was fed up with teaching so started supply. Through that she managed to find a part-time job share in a really nice school.

I think you will find that when you step out of your stressful job into something better, your health problems will improve.

Best of luck!
