Just wondering if anyone chose to write a letter first and then talk about the issue with the person above you? for few years I have been trying to improve my situation as regarding the classes I teach ( timetabling), as it compromises my CV and professional development. maybe because I thought of "chat" and "ask".. maybe it is better I write a letter saying how important it is professional development and to teach a spread of classes, not just a lower classes...is it a good idea? please share your thoughts.... thank you

My Head (in an independent school) prefers you to email him first with the content of what you want to talk about so that he can think about his response first, find out facts, look at options etc...

Are they Investors in People accredited or similar ? What does your contract allow for , is there demand and resources for your subject in older age groups , other members of staff ?

Definitely email first ( not over hols though) but I think you might need to switch the argument round. Rather than 'it would be good for me to teach higher sets because...' try 'it would be good for the school/pupils if I taught higher sets because...'

The classes in higher key stages are covered by other yeachers, so really...there is bo obvious opening... I just thought yhat the svhool could try and give me just few classes so that it would not have we too big impact on other staff timetabkes. Lizs, what is Investors in people?

I agree with email first, highlighting what you want to discuss, and putting it in terms of how it will benefit the school and pupils - focussing on not having too big an impact on other staff timetables is a good start.
