HR Consultancy For Small Businesses...Would this work...?

Interested to know what peoples views are of this....

I've recently had a baby and on mat leave from a large global company and very keen to be a sahm.

But, I'm interested in starting up my own small consultancy business so I can bring in an income. I would want to offer HR advice on the following to small businesses who don't have full time HR people.

Long term sick cases
Workplace disputes including disciplinary/grievance
Performance management
Family Leave including maternity/paternity
Change, including redundancy & TUPE

Do you think this would work?

Any advice on how I would go about it and what to charge?

It could do but if I were a small business owner, I'd want to know what understanding you have of my world, rather than a large global company, iyswim.

Also, it strikes me that being self employed is not the same as being a sahm, it's very time consuming and means you'll still be working.

I have worked for smaller businesses in the past, but good point I'd need to stress that as they are very different worlds.

Ideally I'd like to be able to not have to work full time and work more on my terms. Appreciate it would be hard work and I'd need childcare for some of the time, but was hoping I would be able to do some of it in the evenings when the kids were in bed.

Plenty of small businesss I've worked with do keep an HR consultant "on call".

But they've often advised generally as well eg developing standard contracts, advising on market salary rates etc.

As a small business owner I use an HR consultancy mainly for contracts, company handbook ( they send me updates whenever the law changes) and then calling when I have an issue (they offer 24hour service).

There is a lot of competition for this type of work. You will find that you need to be out and about networking a lot to win business. You need insurance if giving any employment work advice. You may wish to work evenings but you clients may anticipate you being available daytimeq, often at short or no notice makin childcare difficult.have you thought about working for a hr advice line instead?
CIpd have consultants groups throughout the country. You could pop along to one of their meetings and meet other consultants and find out more what I, involved.
Think you may find it is harder to get business than you think, and that you need to be really flexible which may not work with young kids unless .our have easy access to childcare eg grandparents

Also, for a lot of the things yo. Are suggesting to advise on, employers can get free advice from acas
