Would you take a pay cut in order to work in a job that was term time only?

I have applied for a job in a school working in the office and it's term time only, which would be excellent as I'd have all the school holidays to spend with my dd's.

I've got an interview in a few weeks time which I'm a bit nervous about but will go to as nothing ventured nothing gained etc.

the only slight problem is that the job is 2 pay scales lower than the one that I'm on just now and the annual salary works out at roughly £300 less per year. I know it's not a huge loss of money and dh and I will cope ok with it if I get the job.

But I'm a bit worried, the pro's are that it's term time only and I'm quite excited about having a job where I don't have to work through all the school holidays but the con is that it's slightly less money and a lower pay scale. The pay scale increases every April so if I did get the job I'd start on the lower one and be back on the one I'm on now within about 18 months.

what do you think? if you were me and were offered the job would you take it?

I did it 6 years ago and have never looked back.
Go for it I'd say.

I have cut my pay from 350 pounds per week to 149pounds a week for term time only school hours only . I start in September and I know I have made the right decision .

Thanks everyone, I know in my heart that if I'm offered the job it would make sense to take it but I just wanted to sound it out.

At the moment I'm a job share and I work 3 full days a week plus one Saturday in 6, so I'm pro-rata pay for this job.

The new job, if I get it will also be pro rata although because it's on a lower pay scale it works out slightly less pay per annum. The school job is more hours per week but term time only which is a huge advantage.

The school it's in is at the bottom of my steet, so only a 5 minute walk and I'd be able to pop home for lunch, which would save me a fortune actually as at work just now I usually end up popping into the sandwich shop down the road for lunch and it's not cheap.

Thanks again and i'll keep you posted, please keep your fingers crossed for me.

Well, my interview was today and I don't think I got the job.
They said that they'd be selecting today and that the lucky person would get a phone call. We were out the rest of the day but nobody had phoned when I checked once we got home so I guess that's a no then.

I don't think I gave a very good interview to be honest. I was a nervous wreck and still in two minds over whether or not I really wanted the job. I discovered last week that there was a chance that I could start at the bottom of the pay scale if I got the job and if that had been the case I wouldn't have been able to take it as the drop in money would have been too drastic for us to live on.

Oh well, never mind maybe next time.

Thanks for all your advice and help
