Job interview - colleague got it over me

I recently went for a senior role. A colleague,,who I don't like, handed in her notice as I was going for a second interview so I was a bit concerned she had got a job there (we both have the same recruitment consultant on our linked in plus the old head of dept has been headhunting folk). Anyway, the second interview went ok but I didn't enthuse as terms and conditions were not as good as where I m and the chemistry with potential line manager was not there. Plus I had in the back of my mind my colleague may have got a role there as they said an offer for the same level had gone out to someone). Anyway, I mentioned that X was leaving to my old boss just to suss him out and he said 'no he didn't know'.

Anyway I haven't heard anything since the interview (been over 2 weeks now) plus my colleague IS going to this company. Anyway, my current boss is v happy to see the back of employee x as are most folk in our dept. she knows as a request for a reference came in from this company but our head of dept as refused to give a reference. She also reckons our old head do dept must be 'nuts' to employ her and is planning to give him a call to 'watch out' as she can be quite obstructive in work practises. I'm hoping the old head of dept won't mention I went for the interview if she does call him. Do you think he will honour the confidentiality? He claimed he didn't know employee x was leaving at the interview presumably due to confidentiality? Mind you, I wouldn't put it past my colleague to mention it if she knows I also went for an interview. Thoughts?

Quite hard to follow all this as had to read twice but I reckon will be fine. If you're worried could you drop him a line to ask him not to mention you

I wouldn't worry. It sounds like old head/could have been new boss was professional enough not to mention x's interview. Hopefully they'll adopt the same approach with you.

Even if you are "found out" all it demonstrates is your desire to progress. Could you use it as a prompt about what you'd like to happen at current work place?

So the company finally come back to me - say they are looking to create a role for me but realistically will be end Q1 next year. Except I feel now a colleague I don't like will be working there, so should u gracefully say thanks but no thanks?

If I were you I'd make positive sounds and wait to see what they come back with.

If ex-employee nightmare is a 'mare from the beginning at the new co, she may not last... And/or they could create you a great role which has nothing to do with her?

I would keep your options open, you can always find a reason why not if it isn't for you?
