Tax relief for household bills - do the bills have to be in my name?

Hi,
I've recently become self employed and work from home a couple of days/week. Once it comes to filing my self assessment I hope to apply for tax relief / use a proportion of my household bills as expenses. However our gas and electrics accounts are currently in DH's name. Does anybody know if I can still claim tax relief, despite the bills being in his name? Or would I need to make sure my own name is included in the bills?
Any advice gratefully received :-) Thank you!

You don't need to submit copies of your bills when you do your tax return (although of course it's good practice to keep copies in case HMRC ever want to take a look at things) so basically, no, you don't need to put your name on the bills but I presume it would be best practice to go ahead and add your name.

As long as if HMRC wrote to you about it later and asked to see the bills your husband would certify you were liable for them even though in his name it should be fine. It might be a good idea to transfer them into your joint names though if you can.
