Can I tell work I am planning to resign without losing mat pay?

It's 99% likely I'll need to resign from my job which I was due to return to in March since it looks like we are moving (tbc, but almost there). I was fully expecting to return after mat leave but this is something out of my control and I want to keep a good relationship with them. Is it sensible to tell them my plans and that I will simply resign at the appropriate time (i.e. within my notice period)? I'm hoping the extra notice will help them sort out a replacement but don't want to lose the rest of my maternity pay (would be 9 months).

Thanks!

You won't lose out in statutory pay if you resign but done companies who offer extra pay stipulate you have to return for x months or you have to repay any extra company maternity pay.

Best to check your contract.

Thank you - it's only statutory anyway. As long as I don't lose 3 more months stat pay I'm fine with that.

Hopefully in the next week or so - but trouble is I am going to the Christmas do as well, and I can't go with this hanging over my head and not say anything. They are nice employers and I don't want to take the piss - have a last free lunch and then say I'm off! I want to do things the right way round but at the same time make sure I am covered as well.

I'd unofficially tell them, but say you will hand your notice in towards the end of mat leave. Means they can plan, but you don't lose the holiday pay you're accruing!
