Hi,
I have been found my dream job which is full time and involves commuting into the city. I have 2 young DC's and just wondered how manageable this would be. I just wondered if anybody else does this and if you could share you experiences.
Thank you.

Take the dream job.

If your DH is currently unemployed, how about he takes responsibility for the childcare on an ongoing basis? Or at least until you have got your feet under the table and have established yourself and know what you're in for with the commute.

Then he can find the local job!

I work full time and the only way I can do that is by living half an hour from work, so I have minimal commute time. I would be very wary of accepting a job involving so much pressure on you.

Might it be possible to sound out flexible or alternative working arrangements? Eg working from home one day a week like a PP suggested. I work four days across five when not on mat leave - I.e. I commute every day but some days are short. That enables me to have a presence in the office every day but also see more of the DC than would otherwise be the case. My commute is 15 mins drive, 45 mins train and 20 mins tube.

What are your DH's realistic job expectations? How long will it take him to get a job? Might it be local? How much coild he earn? How much does he care? Is he as ambitious as you? How much income do you need as a family?

But I'd take the dream job. In the current climate who knows how long your DH will be unemployed, and if he does get a very well paid long-hours job you can always quit yours.
