He started working for a company that does the cleaning in a TESCO warehouse. So many people have not been paid on time... this has usually been put down to the on site manager not sending details through to the central payroll on time.

And yes

He has not been paid.

He does not live with me, but with my dad (mutually beneficial arangement, he is 24, dad is in late 60's, son get's space to live, dad gets help around the house)

I have advised him to contact acas. Any pointers on anything else he should be doing?

Apparently people regularly don't get pay slips, get emergency payments of 60% of what they think they should get, and when they query this are told they have paid emergency tax (despite being there for 2 years already).

Update - he has been told that he has not been paid because the payroll people didn't get information on what hours he worked. They may put an emergency payment through.

there is no union there

Could the CAB help? Not sure what else to suggest, but hopefully this will bump the thread for you.

Could be try contacting HRMC?

It is illegal not to provide Pay slips for starters.

Your son should start looking for a new job ASAp because in my bitter experience when there are major problems with the PAY roll it usually means the company is about to go bust.

Thank you :)

Will suggest he directs his workmates to HMRC.

CAB is another good idea

he also has not been given any paperwork/contract.

Finding another job is problematic as he is in a difficult location and is reliant on public transport

Even it he gets put on emergency tax, he can ring HMRC and make sure that they are aware that he works there, and HMRC will send the correct tax code to the company.
If he is overtaxed through emergency tax, he should receive this back when his tax code has been updated.

Is it possible for him to take responsibility for his own timesheets/getting them to payroll? I know he shouldn't have to, but it sounds like he might need to.

YoniMatopoeia · 10/10/2013 15:33

The office manager is the only one who can submit the timesheets. She has repeatedly told him that she has sent them (he was aware of potential problems and so has been checking weekly)

Usdaw are the union for tesco and so would probably take your son as a member too (I'm a union organiser working for unison and we'd take contractors at our workplaces) he should look at joining them for future issues tho they won't be able to help with this one

Cheers custard, I am very pro union so will suggest that.
