Should I give up on my dreams of part time?

I was working in a senior Marketing role for 4 years, working 4 days a week and working flexibly to manage drop off and pick up of 2 year old and 6 year old. Just about making it work. Then I got made redundant. Not only am I devastated, I am struggling to find a new role that matches the salary I need (single parent). Should I just give up and go for full time? Really going to struggle to get back to cover the pick up at 6pm as it is due to location etc. Just feel so stuck. And skint. And scarred...What's the impact on my boys of full time childcare?

If you get a full time role you can put in a flexible working request after 6 months, I think personally I'd do this or ask at interview stage if compressed hours would be an option?

Don't give up. I was in a similar position recently and applied for a fulltime job, was offered it and successfully negotiated 4 days. If you are the right person for the job many employers will be willing to compromise.

I think you should apply for full time and if your sucessfull after interview ask for 4 days or 5 days but starting later and finishing earlier.

good luck

have you signed up to timewise - several senior marketing type jobs on there.

Or might be work going full time temporarily then applying for part-time

and apply for full time jobs and ask if you can go part-time straight away - it worked for me once!

I agree with the others, apply for full-time roles and if you get offered the job then negotiate your hours.

I work in a very similar industry to yours and 9 times out if ten they've been happy for me to do a four day week.

One word of advice though, and this may be contrary to popular opinion, don't ask about part-time hours before the interview stage. You're in a far stronger negotiating position once they've met you and offered you the role.

Have you thought about freelancing via an agency btw? It's much more flexible and the money tends to be better.
