sorry another job question from Enid, is it illegal for your company to contact you while on maternity leave?

My maternity replacement has told my assistant that it is, so that's why she hasn't sent me any copies of minutes (as I had requested).

No not at all - well at least my last employers contacted me while in labour and then weekly thereafter, I got copies of all board minutes sent to me at home and also attended 2 meetings during my mat leave. They're a big firm and I doubt they'd have done that if it wasn't ok.

Freckle · 26/06/2006 14:00

Highly unlikely if you had specifically told them that they could. Your replacement sounds like a twit.

Whizzz · 26/06/2006 14:00

I don't think so
some stuff here

Rhubarb · 26/06/2006 14:02

No it's not. Sounds like your maternity replacement might be hoping that you won't be returning!

frogs · 26/06/2006 14:03

Not per se, otherwise they couldn't send out congratulations cards or flowers!

But I guess there are provisions in employment law that prevent them phoning you up and harrassing you on a regular basis with tedious work-based stuff you shouldn't have to deal with.

If you've specifically asked to be sent copies of particular things to keep you in the loop, can't see how that could be construed as problematic.

FairyMum · 26/06/2006 14:03

No, on the contrary. They have a duty to keep you informed while you are not in the office.

Marina · 26/06/2006 14:03

I think it is only illegal for them to press you into giving a return to work date.
It is not only legal but courteous practice to send you minutes etc, preferably marked "FYI only, no action needed" and with a kind note and a bar of chocolate included.
I was very grateful to be kept in the loop on a basic level during my maternity leaves.

EvesMama · 26/06/2006 14:04

not at all.
its advised they do to keep good relationship ie:hows you..hows baby..BTW when will you come back and unburden us of this lazy lying toe rag of a replacement!!

Feistybird · 26/06/2006 14:05

No, my manager arranged with me to call me every 6 weeks to be kept updated.

Maybe they are guarding against appearing to be giving you work...?

foxinsocks · 26/06/2006 14:05

oh dear!

I remember when you were seeing people to find a replacement. Is she a bit mad?

Enid · 26/06/2006 14:07

not mad - but she sure as hell wants my job!

Don't think so , but they can't ask you outright if/when you plan to return.
