Compassionate leave?

Hello my friend is having some issues and I thought I might be able to find her some good advice here. Her boyfriend of 2.5. Years was in a car accident two weeks ago, serious, he has only just woken up and is still in intensive care, he will never walk again. Her employer was kind enough to move her holiday from mid October to now but she is due to go back next week and she wants to know where she stands legally?

She has no contract with her employer but has worked since April for him. She wants to go back to working in the morning but being able to leave in the afternoon to see her partner.

Does anyone have any advice for her? Any grants or support she could be eligible for?

Thank you

Shameless bump.

Why doesn't she have a contract?

Regardless, I would think if she has used up her holiday then it's more about her employer's good will at present. They may be happy for her to do part time for a couple of weeks, or to change her to part time if it's a long term need.

I'm not sure of the ins and outs of the job, I just wondered if she was entitled to paid compassionate leave. I'll let her know and hopefully her employer will allow her to move from ft to pt for a few months :(

He went back onto life support today. She is devastated

Sorry to hear that Flowers

There's no paid compassionate leave entitlement, no. If she wants/can afford to reduce her hours the only thing she can do is speak to her manager about it.

It might be worth her contacting her Citizens Advice Bureau about eg local hardship loans. There may be local charities that are relevant also.
