New job and pregnancy

Hi There,
I have just been offered a job and I will be 17 wks pregnant when I start. I just wondered if anyone has been in this position before, I know I legally have to tell them by 15 weeks and I guess I will start to show soon, my trousers are pretty tight as it is. I'm really worried about how telling them will go down, I will be off work in the busy period. I'm not normally dishonest but I know I would not have got the job if I mentioned it and I need an income. I just wondered peoples opinions on how to broach the subject, should I just lie and say I just found out, I've heard that can happen. Could they sack me? argh, I've not slept well in weeks! I was made redundant and found out two weeks after I finished, then spent a few weeks fretting and finally decided to go for it and try and get the job I want, so i'm really pleased that I've got a job, but now its stage 2, when and how to tell them.
I'd be grateful of any advice/opinions.

Thanks

I think it's actually 15 weeks before your due date, but I could be wrong - worth checking on that first!

You are under no obligation to tell an employer that you are on interview with that you are pregnant and they can't treat you an differently because of it when you do finally tell them.

I would just be honest about it - they can't sack you because you are pregnant and would probably be very very cautious of sacking you for any other reason just in case you took then to court and tried to claim it was due to your pregnancy!!

Thanks for your reply. Your right, i'm just dreading it! I think i'll feel better once I've told them.

Thanks again.

Hi Mariana, I hope you don't mind me messgaing you directly? I'm new to mumsnet and just saw your post which is the exact same situation i find myself in today. I just wondered what your employers said when you told them and what happened? :-)

I was in The same position I was 20 weeks when I started and now 32. I obviously was showing once I started (was 17 weeks at interview amazed didn't have a bump really) and was just really honest once I started so I could get my risk assessment done and cover me for vomiting etc and seeing the midwife etc. I was honest when I could be, reassured them nothing about me and my work ethic was any different. They were OK with it and have been very supportive.
