not written one of these for a while!, anyone know the correct way to address a letter to Lord X of Y,

suspect it is a deliberate hurdle so must get it right!

What is he though? a duke, viscount, baron etc - it can make a difference when you are writing to someone.

Tumblemum · 22/06/2006 13:47

I think he is a life peer? as opposed to a hereditary

yo geezer get down with the tumblemum massive ?

Bugsy2 · 22/06/2006 13:50

He is probably a Baron in that case. So you would address him as: The Lord XXXX (Brown - for example). Then you would start the letter: Dear Lord Brown.
Hope that helps.

Bugsy2 · 22/06/2006 13:52

Also if he is The Lord Brown of Brownbottom then you need to add the whole "of Brownbottom" bit at the top of the address, but then you just write to: Dear Lord Brown.

You are welcome - good luck.

May be wrong, but don´t think you need the ´The´. Usually only used for hereditary.

Lord Brown of Brownsbottom,
The Big House,
etc etc.

Dear Lord Brown,

Envelope The Rt. Hon the Lord Brown of Brownsbottom

Bit rusty, but think that´s right.

If you get really stuck, call Debretts. Someone there will help you!!
