What do you think would be reasonable here?

Hi, this is just a question as I am not sure what the norm is.
Pleaae consider this situation:
working hours are mon - fri full time, has to attend and help co-ordinate a work event over a whole weekend- so finish work fri afternoon, travel to event, stay there and work over weekend, arrive home sun pm, due to work again Monday morning.

In this job, pay is £26k p.a. Annual leave is statutory minimum.

Do you think it is fair or reasonable to have some time off in lieu for this? So either the Monday or Tuesday after arriving back - or just to go in late on the Monday? If so, how much time off would you expect?
Or is the 'norm' here just to work the following week as normal and not expect anything back?
Thank you for any opinions!

Norm for us would be time back or overtime.

We expect managers to cover 1/2 hour here or there as part of their responsbilities, but a whole day would be repaid; however it would not always be straight after - but at a mutually agreed time to allow for the needs of the business.

In my company, if you have to work at weekend, you get the same amount of time in lieu-ie in this situation, I would expect to get 2 extra days but this would be added to holiday entitlement so I could take it whenever.

In my business if these are outside contracted hours you would get two additional days off. I would also look at whether you have exceeded the 48 hours. Of the work time directive in which case it maybe more appropriate to have one day off in the week before and one day off in the week after.
I suspect if you are the employee the working time directive is your friend here.

That's great, thank you.

I have tended to encourage TIL to be taken around the time the extra was worked. As it is meant to be to have a rest etc. Although this can be difficult as it is probably a busy time in the first place to require the TIL.

We experienced a staff member trying to build up a bank of TIL which would have been difficult for us to manage.

I think 2 days sounds fair for that level of person.

Err meant TOIL....

There's also the Working Time Regulations There are certain exemptions, though (managers, I think is one.)
