NHS job change from hospital-based to gp surgery query...

Hi mumsnetters

I am currently working in a hospital under a Trust (admin and clerical), and would like a change of scenery, though still working for the NHS.

I am looking at reception work in a dentist, clinic, or gp surgery, something which is very similar to what I'm doing now.

I have worked for the NHS for 8 years, same Trust throughout, and have an NHS pension, both of which I want to continue with..

Do gp/dental surgeries and clinics come under the NHS, or privately run? Stupid question, I know, but I need to know re: the above.Hmm Also, if I do work for the NHS outside a hospital trust, does my length of service/pension continue as normal?

Sorry for sounding such a numpty Blush, I should know these things working for the NHS, but I can't ask my employers or colleagues for advice due to the atmosphere being horrible due to being shortstaffed, and I don't want to look like I'm rubbing it in IYSWIM.

There are no other vacancies on the hospital intranet which reflect my skills. At 47, I do not wish to re-train on something which could potentially take me a long time. And with us being shortstaffed , I can't see how I would have the time to retrain whilst doing more than my fair share which I am presently doing. And no change is imminent...Phew, sorry, that was long, I knowBlush

Also, where exactly do I look/ apply for these jobs? I take it the local press, but is any other way too? I am also contemplating writing to local gp surgeries with covering letter and cv.

Sorry for the long post... Please advise...Smile
