Becoming a medical secretary with no secretarial experience?!

I'm a primary school teacher who hasn't taught full time for six years. I have done a little supply work throughout that time while my children are little but just can't face trying to get a contract of any kind. However, this feeling is more about teaching rather than working. I want to work but I can't bear the stress which teaching can cause. At 35, I'd like to try and get into something new sooner rather than later.

So, I fancy being a medical secretary, have done for a while. I like medically things and think I would relate well to medical professionals and patients. However, I have no office experience at all! It's the computer stuff that scares me a little. Could anyone point me towards a good course to get some of the required basic skills. I know there is a terminology course that I'd need to do but presumably I need to get some office skills first. Any advice would be really appreciated.

City & Guilds/AMSPAR Level 2 Diploma in Medical Administration is the course you need. There's a level 3 too and a medical terminology course.

The level 2 amspar diploma includes administration units in a medical setting as well as medical terminology. Check your local college website to see what they offer.
