Can I ask for a pay rise?

We have had 6 redundancies at work and obviously that means more work for the rest of us!! My boss has asked me how I feel about leading a group of staff (4 to 6 staff). Some of the associate directors went straight to director level as they are getting rid of the AD title. I'm a bit peed off about that TBH and so my title stays at senior manager which ive been for nearly 5.5 years). Yet am being asked to take this on (I suspect my colleague who is a director said she didn't want to line manage so I was the next option). Could I ask for extra salary as a result of this extra responsibility given the financials are ok but the company is wanting more growth and this was essentially a cost cutting measure. I've been on mat leave so my salary increase wasn't great this year (2.75 per cent). I would have the most staff and I predict I'd need to take on more junior staff to do the work so the team will grow. How would you go about asking this? T

I would say I'd do it if my job description changes to reflect this and salary increases otherwise no I'm no willing to take on the extra workload!

What's your case for a pay rise and do you have a view on what you expect? Are you taking on additional responsibilities, is it a new job description, does it save the company money? Think about what your case is, and what to will do if you ask and they say no.

The job descriptions were changed during this redundancy process and we were evaluated against a skills matrix and had to score 4 or more to stay. I did not have line managees before (mentoring one staff member but was doing all the goals/objectives cos my boss didn't have time) so I'll be possibly managing 4-6 people if I agree, and two are a complete nightmare!! Just had our new organogram issued and a colleague has also gone from manager to snr manager (even tho they got rid of 2 other snr managers - she is 'good' at her job but now same level as me with less experience). I am interested in promotion and my boss said I'd report directly to her if I take it on along with the other directors. But should I ask for a pay rise but do it as a means to an end to get eventual promotion (this has not been promised or anything). Or are they just taking the piss? I do think one of the directors was asked but know she's not interested in line management. Do you think I should ask her if shed been asked to line manage the subs group??

I think they are taking the piss, going from not line managing anyone to 4-6 people is definitely a massive change in responsibility and workload and you should be rewarded.

I've never been one for taking on the extra work to look good and get promotion, they should promote you if you are good enough! So yes I think you should ask for a pay rise.
