Is any one flight crew? How do you manage childcare without family help?

Don't know if anyone is in a similar situation or not but if you you work shifts, early starts, late finishes and some nights away, how do you manage childcare without family help?

Dh has been doing the lions share outside nursery on the days I work, 5 on, 5 off, but really isn't coping, we have other relationship problems and a 2 year old dd who doesn't sleep well.

It has reached a point where I'm seriously having to face the possibility of being a single mum and wondering how I will cope. I have a successful career but work long shifts coupled with over a 200 mile round trip commute. I'm on the verge of packing work in but don't know how I'd cope as a jobless single mum with no house or savings.

Any ideas?

Umm ...giving up this particular job sounds like the right move OP, but its a big jump to then say you will be coping as a "jobless single mum with no house or savings"! Your post says there are some relationship problems, but this sounds as though you have decided that the marriage is actually over? if so, why would you assume that you will be the one who has to move out?

Just a bit confused by the big jump. Are you able to clarify a little?

I'm not flight crew but wondered if you can request to be moved to different shift or to ground staff so that you get more regular hours?

Agree. Dd is still 'ours' not just 'yours' so why is everything apart from feeling like it on your shoulders? Or can dad not take part? (No need to explain, just confirm)
