Would this request sound ridiculous?

Hi all

I started a new job 3 weeks ago after being at home for the last 18 months. I was taken on for 19 hours a week (I cannot work full time) which I have worked for the last 3 weeks. For the next few weeks I'm only doing 16 hours although I will be paid for 19 and be expected to make it up sometime.

I have realised that I would much prefer to work 16 hours a week. I do have good reasons for this (not just laziness promise Grin )

Would I be completely bonkers to request this after such a short time? I really don't want to stand out as the awkward employee. Usually I would just ask but my confidence is pretty shattered after a horrendous couple of years and I'm worried about rocking the boat. Would employers here judge a new starter that asked this?

I don't know if this is relevant but the role I interviewed for was for 12 hours and I was told it would be 19 when offered the job. Also I haven't had my contract yet.

Thank you in advance.

Could you do the job effectively in 16 hours?

You obviously accepted the increased hours, but if someone told me that they were able to do what I needed in 16 hours, I would be happy to save the extra three hours in salary. Unless you need to be there for something specific, like answering the phone!

I could do the job within the 16 hours I work as part of team and it's different shifts each week so I fit in where needed, they also took on another new starter at the same time.

I know I should stop being a twat and just ask, but, I'm worried that once I do I can't take It back IYSWIM and could make myself out as the person that accepted a the job then immediately tried to change it Confused I should have just said when I was offered it but was so pleased to be offered a good job I didn't really plan beyond that.
