have no respect for my manager

short story, l have been working for a company for nearly two years, my manager - who was lovely - left in October and her replacement joined shortly after

I took six months off and came back to a different role as she couldn't cope with the workload. I don't know who my line manager is anymore. people keep complaining about her to me and I have no respect for her personal judgement or knowledge

in every meeting she doesn't get what we are trying to do or says something completely not related

what can I do?

Can you not make a phonecall to HR and ask who your line manager is as you have an issue that needs to be dealt with?

That way she won't be aware and you can get the information you require.

they will tell me its xxx as that's my official line manager but unofficially its not

means I don't really know what I'm doing on a day to day basis Sad

Ask xxx for guidance? Schedule regular catch ups to fill her in?

superbagpuss · 11/07/2013 18:33

sorry xxx is my manager, she doesn't have a clue what is going on so I refer to xxx manager who won't give me a straight answer about who my informal manager is

also everyone moans to me about xxx incompetence - do I tell her manager or is that wrong?

I don't understand. Why is your official line manager not your real manager? What's with the unofficial manager thing??

I think you should stop listening to other people. There is a reason your official manager is your manager so you should accept that and respect her. If she's really as bad as you make her sound, then her manager will eventually realise it and sack her. But in the meanwhile you should just accept your official manager as your official manager!

gongerandcoco even if she is a nightmare
I have no respect for her professional judgement at all

and her manager is now setting my workload along with another team as she had part of her job taken away

I know, I've been in a similar situation and I know how difficult it is. But I look back and really regret how i didn't respect my old boss and her feelings, she was insecure, not very good at her job, and very threatened by me.

I did go to her boss directly and said I couldn't work for her anymore, he said there was nothing he could do in terms of moving to another area, so I ended up moving to another company (where I still am).

Maybe you should speak to her boss then, and see if you could move elsewhere?

thanks ginger

in effect they are moving me to help solve the problem short term but I'm in a team doing a job I don't want to do. I guess the only thing I can do is be polite and wait
