Going rate for childminders ?

Can anyone advise what the going rate for childminders is?

We are looking into several options for when i go back to work part time in Jan next year - i will be returning to work for either 2 or 3 days a week.

My SIL has offered to look after the baby and we are condiering this as an option - What would be a reasonable amount to offer her per hour or per day. She would have the baby from 8.30ish to 6 p.m.

Just looking at options at the minute so any suggestions would be great.

We pay our childminder £20 per day (DD only goes in school hols), for having DD from 8a.m-5p.m. including a cooked lunch and drinks and snacks. We pay if DD doesn't go for whatever reason but not if the childminder is sick/on holiday. This was the childminder's suggestion as she felt that we would have to pay for someone else to look after DD or take time off work.

I think it depends on your location. I went on a business class last week where the NCMA lady said it varies hugely around the country. In South Glos I pay £3 per hour, but I was told that in some London areas the charge can be as much as £15 ph!

We pay £4 per hour for ds2 who is with the childminder three full days per week 8-6. I then pay a reduced rate for ds1 as he is there less hours but she does take him to school and collect.

I pay slightly more in holiday weeks as ds1 is also there all day. We have a 52 week contract and I pay her for 4 weeks holiday per year and sick days (there is a limit but can't remember what it is) but in the 4 years my kids have been with her she's only had a couple of sick days off in that whole time.

BF charges £3.50 ph, but after reading this I'm going to tell her she's undercharging!

It does depend on the area you live in, and supply and demand. The best thing to do is go to the Childcare link website, put in your postcode and look up details of childminders in your area.

The link is here

If she takes money for looking after your child - she will need to register as a childminder ....won't she?

30gbp a day - usually from 8 - 5.30 if she has her but even if I drop her off a couple of hours late or pick her up early I still pay her the same - I am in SE9 by the way but used to be charged about the same when I lived in Essex.
