Redundancies

We are a dept of 21 (was about 50 this time last year with the promise of increasing nos and thus opportunity - ha!). There will be 6 redundancies in the next week. We are spread over 3 offices worldwide. I have 3 kids so can't afford to lose my job but am feeling so demotivated by it. We are busy enough as it is (my colleagues is reg doing 70 hours) so even if I stay (which my boss says ill be ok) - its not a prospect am looking forward to having to work even harder. Some of the people who I work with in the us said they could be gone as early as next week due to local laws! 3 of them are working on projects with me so if the go, I'll have a nervous breakdown for sure. I have my consultation on Monday and don't see how these changes will make us more profitable. I supposedly have the opportunity to feedback on the proposed structure, but think someone has a screw loose seeing as the have kept 3 people who are not billed to,clients so how can we make profits if they are getting rid of 3 people who can be charged out to clients versus 3 who don't???

It is clear they have decided who will go and and who will stay based on the roles that r left in the dept. also my manager said she was ensuring people who remained loyal to her stay. V nice to have shown my support to the dept but is this really fair? Am having a hard time talking to colleagues knowing am not one of the hit list. Anyone else been in a situation where announcement of redundancies has been sooooooo badly handled?

That does sound very stressful. And being 'consulted' after the decisions have already been taken is always frustrating.

But as for poorly handled announcements: www.guardian.co.uk/money/work-blog/2012/nov/06/rubbing-salt-redundancy-wound.
There were queues out of the front of the office of people waiting to try their passes and see if they still had a job.
