I have a first class degree in Maths. Would like to get into teachcing (primary level). I was thinking about Schools Direct (Salaried ) option. any ideas? can anyone please throw some light on this? What to expect during the training period? Will i be teaching for a class? What would be my work timing?? how much extra work do i need to carry home?

If you did a PGCE and qualified as a primary school maths specialist you'd be given a financial incentive of £11,000 in addition to the usual loans and bursaries - see here for more details: www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/funding/postgraduate-funding

The thing with Schools Direct is you have to work for a school within their consortium after you qualify and the consortium can cover quite a large geographical area. A PGCE will give you more choice.

P.S. Sorry I can't tell you more about what either a PGCE or Schools Direct would involve in terms of workload - I've not done either, just researched them quite a bit. But I get the impression all trainee and new teachers, both primary and secondary, have to do a lot of work at home (DP is a teacher).
