Employers have just decided to bring in name badges - not happy

We have just been told we have to wear name badges including our surname.

I am not happy with wearing a badge with my full name on especially in an age of google!

Does the data protection act come in to force at all?

Any advice much appreciated. Thanks

Well, this thread isn't just about nurses, but, as suggested upthread, you should be allowed to use a 'work name' - possibly using a maiden name, or, to be honest any old surname, as long as HR and management are aware of who you are...... obviously I mean a name chosen when you start, and used consistently, not people turning up with a new 'Mickey Mouse' name each day, now that would be daft Grin

Tbh it's not something I've ever thought about. As a nurse anyone can check my qualification online anyway and I'm not sure I'd be allowed to "withhold" my surname if asked. My ID card has name, job description, trust and photo.
