Apply

good money

great on your cv

positive effect on society

etc
etc

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 21:08

Well that's what I think MP, I'd really like to do it, but not sure if they wanted top-execs - md's instead of normal bods like me. I seem to have the experience they're looking for, but in very small companies, and it's just a bit daunting......

What experience do you need to apply?

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 21:21

They're asking for some kind of senior management experience in any field. The advert on the radio makes out that anyone can apply, but reading through the stuff I'm not sure whether they're after the real bigwigs only. But they've got 900 posts to fill, so I guess it depends who applies!

The link's \link{http://www.experiencetolife.co.uk/\here} if you want to look at it.

I've looked at the website but can't find a contact number. Would prefer to have everything in hard copy. Anyone got a contact number?

Mog · 19/05/2006 21:31

Also a friend of mine did it before the big recruitment drive and found if you wanted to take it seriously it involved more than 2.5 days a week, or that it was so bitty that childcare was hard to juggle. Still worth having a go though and would really like to get into the maternity aspect of my local PCT.

Mog · 19/05/2006 21:32

Sorry 2.5 days a month.

morningpaper · 19/05/2006 21:32

As far as I know they are interested in anyone with management experience, not just bigwigs

It's usually lots of men so being a ladeee would probably be favourable

Don't do it myself but have a friend who does it for a PCT

morningpaper · 19/05/2006 21:33

(primary care trust)

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 21:35

TBH, the pay is so good I wouldn't mind if it took more hours! I vounteer as a treasurer for a charity, so the pay's much better than that!Grin

OP posts:
Orinoco · 19/05/2006 21:36

Just realised how that sounded - obviously that's not my main motivation Grin

OP posts:
Mog · 19/05/2006 21:38

Think I'm going to apply but have more experience in community involvement and local government that management. But care passionately about local maternity and health care in general. So worth a go I feel.

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 21:41

Exactly Mog, heathcare is something that affects everyone in some way. We'll have to keep in touch, see how we go!

I think the closing date's June 6th or 8th, something like that.

I am going to apply as well - would love to do thsi as believe hugely in NHS and have the management experience... hopefully could work FT and still do this

Mog · 19/05/2006 21:45

Have you found a contact number as I'd like to have the paper in front of me. I'm in Essex so will apply to my local trust where I've had three babies!

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 21:48

No I can't see a phone number. I'll listen for the radio advert to see whether they mention one on there, Mog. Or you could print it all out!!!

I feel another thread coming on in a couple of weeks or so.....

OP posts:
Mog · 19/05/2006 21:58

Yeah, let's all keep in touch and see how we go. Feel the bottom line will not so much be experience but what you're willing to put in. I'm currently a governor at the local school so really think it's down to being able to stand back and give an outsiders view of what's going on.
The time taken up by my friend- who is very good at what she does- was because she wanted to be on the chalkface talking to staff. Wouldn't bother me though.

Mog · 19/05/2006 22:03

Found a number for anyone else browsing
0870 240 3802
Believe that is the appointments commission number

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 22:04

Found it Mog! There's a phone number or you can click to be sent an application pack \link{http://www.appointments.org.uk/view_vac.asp?ID=1062\here}

That's kind of how I'm thinking. I may not know anything about the NHS from the inside but I'm one of those type of people that likes to be involved - the treasurer situ, and (like you) I'm looking into being a school governor when the next vacancies come up in September.

I just hope it's not full of 70 yo men!!

OP posts:
Mog · 19/05/2006 22:10

Thanks Ori, I've used your link to get a pack. Think I'd be committed to it, it's just trying to get through selection. Good luck to you!

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 22:11

and to you! and you Mancmum!

Flossam · 19/05/2006 22:25

Sorry but 900 new 'management' posts and yet thousands of clinical staff cuts?? How can this be afforded???

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 22:28

I don't know Floss. But the posts are all only part-time, 2 1/2 days per month, and from what I gather from reading some stuff this evening, it won't be 900 new posts, there's already loads of people already doing this.

OP posts:
Flossam · 19/05/2006 22:32

Sorry, sounds aresy, but worried about my job a bit really! Only on a short term contract, if a job freeze at the end I will be stuck. People at work comment on all the management and how it is killing the NHS. 900 jobs is an awful lot, although as you say not many hours, still a lot more people on payroll, ?pensions.

Orinoco · 19/05/2006 22:36

I guess so Flossam, most industries nowdays seem to have more chiefs than indians. There's no pension etc entitlement with it, it's simply like expenses rather than being employed. Why don't you go for it too, you sound passionate!

Hope your job turns out ok Sad
