Any marketing people there? I need advice about advertising

I don't want to spend too much, but feel I need to advertise my I.T. support services, cos I could do with more business (and income).

I have an ad ready for the business section of our local paper, which would cost me £240 to run in the business supplement each week for 3 weeks.

Is this a cost-effective way to spend £240?
Do I just have to try it to find out.

Can anyone point me to some info on effective marketing?

I would

place an entry in Yellow pages

Place small ad in local press classified
eg
Local PC support at clumsymums.co.uk
and run it every week, £240 would get you a year of drip drip exsposure

Hound your local paper to do stories each month;
1 start up
2 How great its going
3 free bit of IT support for good cause
4 donate a computer to school

Knock on doors one day a week.

Good luck!
