Recently I've been having some health problems, I have constant pain which is making me tired. Somedays I'm struggling at work and I'm often exhausted by the end of the week. Is it possible to get a fit note to say I can only do limited duties - I can't lift heavy items.
I've not had any time off work sick as this is a long term problem as I'm awaiting test results. I don't feel the need to be off work as some days I feel ok.

it's certainly worth having the conversation with your GP

also, do you have a friendly oc health dept at work? are they aware?

chuckieegg2008 · 23/03/2013 17:51

No there is no oc health dept

See your GP yes, but remember your employer doesn't have to accommodate doctors' recommendations. Do you think the no heavy lifting thing would be easy to implement? What's your sick pay like if your GP says you are not fit enough to do the whole job and your employer can't/won't make adjustments?

Yeah I don't need to lift much in work, I'm on my feet all day which exhausts me. My sick pay I think is 12 weeks full pay I think. Never been off sick so don't know much about it.

Ok well that sounds sensible then. Get to your GP, and he/she will decide whether you are fit for work or are fit for work with adjusted duties or are not fit for work at all. Sounds as though an adjustment like you are expecting will be easily accommodated by your employer but if not, and you end up having to be off sick, at least you'll still be paid in full.

Just don't want to really be signed off as I think this could be a long term problem, have been in pain for the past 3 months :(

Well ultimately you need to get it sorted, and it sounds as though carrying on as you are is more likely to make things worse. Hopefully you may not need to be signed off completely and will be able to work on improving things so you can get back up to full speed again. But the sooner you get to your doctor the sooner that process can start and finish.
