Work have just moved us to a new pension scheme where we are now being taxed before the pension contribution is deducted rather than after so my tax has gone up massively each month.
They have advised me to move to SMART rather than have to complete a tax return and wait until the end of the year to claim the tax back (on 40% tax rate currently).
However, I am currently 15 weeks pregnant. Am I right in thinking I should not move to SMART just yet as it will impact how my maternity pay is calculated if i have sacrificed salary? But can I move as soon as the qualifying weeks to calculate pay are up?
Work have said I can opt in and out of SMART at any time but can't give me any advice in relation to pregnancy and the impact.
Any advice appreciated.
