Seriously.I am going for a job with Youth Offending, colleague seems to think it will be just fine but do you think the panel will think i am taking the piss?!

Gawd no!!!

But then I am hopelessly out of touch with 'yoof' - especially offending yoof. Not suggesting you go for a "nice pair of court shoes" either....but there must be a mid way.

Out of curiousity - what will the rest of your interview outfit consist of?

busybusybee · 03/05/2006 23:06

Notasheep - I have a pair of smartish trousers - Well they are my smartest pair :o brushed cotton

They are not jeans but then they are not mega smart either. I wear dms with them and I think they look great!! green trousers, brown dms if it helps

I would say given the type of job maybe you could get away with dms depending on the rest of your outfit - deffo dont wear jeans though

Good luck!

Nbg-but i am a tough lady-ill get these offenders sorted out! before long they will be buying me a cappucino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmc and bbb these jeans of mine are BRAND NEW LevisSmile not trendy hipsters or bootlegs so to me they look smart.

My dms are blue and lovely and shiny and with my blue and white stripey top from Monsoon(long sleeved no boobs showing, but then i am flat chested anyway!)
i think i look clean and tidySmile

notasheep · 04/05/2006 14:22

No, absolutely not, not if I actually wanted the job anyway.

Witchycat · 04/05/2006 19:51

notasheep - I'm in social housing and I wouldn't be worried if someone turned up for an interview in DMs. (not sure about the jeans though - but I accept might be ok in your field).

If you are really worried why not ring up the HR Dept & ask them for 'a bit of advice' re. dress code. They will know if it's ever been an issue in an interview before.

notasheep · 04/05/2006 19:58

Withcycat-thanks for that,i have met the guy who will be interviewing-so think i should be really direct e.g will what i wear not give me the job.

I do feel under pressure as every body is just assuming i will get it

Wow - that must be quite hard to live up to. Presumably you feel it's not a foregone conclusion? I guess being complacent could trip you up (if you know what I mean) so you're probably adopting a sensible attitude to take it seriously.

I agree - if you already have contact with the interviewer, just ask him a straight question. I would respect a prospective interview candidate doing that. (I still reckon they will be looking for your experience and skills and attitude though, not your flippin footwear!)

serenity · 04/05/2006 20:19

If you think the jeans and top aren't too casual I can't see why the DMs would be a problem. I wear mine for everything (including the few interviews I've had), they look perfectly decent with smart trousers. Jeans and DMs would have been too laidback for anything I've gone for.

I think the idea of asking HR, or the guy you know is a good one. Your not going to feel relaxed if you're worrying about your clothes before you get in there!

good luck btw Smile
