Hi
In September 2012 I was asked at very short notice to move from a role with no direct reports, to a role with 8 direct reports and a team of 52 people working under the team of 8.
My contracted hours are 36.25 per week, but the new role is 45 hours. Because the team is failing (and has been for years before I got there) I have worked in excess of 45 hours per week most weeks since September trying to spin many plates!
The understanding from the start was that I would decide if I wanted the role on a permanent basis, and if I did, it would be advertised and I would interview for it. Now due to the economic situation I have been told the role will not be advertised anytime soon, as there are pressures on headcount.
I have had no pay increase, and have been paid no overtime. When I asked about this on being told the role was not being advertised, I was told I already earn similar salary to the other 4 managers doing similar roles. Those doing similar roles do not have the same performance management issues with their teams.
I am so annoyed I want to resign immediately, but I start an IVF cycle next week, and could do with the continuity of employment!
Would appreciate people's thoughts. I feel I have taken a pay cut due to the increased working hours, and what about the increased responsibility? Does the fact that I already earn similar money to my peers go against me?
My gut feeling is to ask to be moved back to my substantive post, where i would have no stress and less hours for the same money!
Many thanks
