I want to work, part time for more than £5 an hour is that too much to ask.
I have a degree and 5 years experience but because I have been working from home and on contracts for 6 years now it seems nobody wants me :-(
Is it really so unreasonable to want more than my child care costs covered ?

hi AD
saw that nobody had responded to your posting. i know how you feel. i have a degree and loads of years experience and it does seem so hard to get a job that pays you enough to have a decent amount left over after paying for childcare.
i have always been fine but since going back to work after my ds2 i have had a shock.have found it incredibly hard to oconcentrate on both working and being a mother. cocntract not being renewed as they need someone full time and i just feel like shit about the whole thing. just found ouot that my sister only takes home £100 more than her childcare every month, that is ridiculous and i don't know how she does it but they need that money so she has to! I was taking home around £900 more than my childcare but realise that getting paid all that money means the employer expects your blood in return! or have i just become a bitter cow about the whole thing?!
so I am now going to stay at home with the kids for 6 months and see what happens. am looking forward to seeing the boys but just hope i can be a good full time mum.
sorry, have not offered you any useful advice, just driveled on about me. have been looking online for part time homeworkign but it all looks a bit dodgy and salesy (i am not a salesperson!).
good luck and hope something comes your way.

Well knock me down with a feather, since posting this I seem to have found something working from home that actually looks very good.
It does mean though it'll be a contract again which doesn't help if you're hoping for maternity pay, as I was. Oh well.

well done Angela.

just to be nosey what is it you have found?

AngelaD · 06/05/2006 14:00

It's HR work again, writing policy and proceedure manuals and terms and conditions, not the most exciting but it'll keep me out of trouble.
It seems to be the case that if you won't the flexibility of perhaps starting at 9.30am until 4pm and the odd day to attend sports day, ill child then basically you have to work for the government or sacrifice all other benefits like holiday pay/sick pay etc.
It's not fair what year are we in ?

I know exactly what you mean.

I don't get holiday pay, sick pay ,but I'm working p-t around my 2 kids cos I want to be here for them.

But workwise it is depressing!
