I'm trying to carve out a career as a freelance journalist in a new country. I'm still learning the language so it's been difficult getting started in terms of local news stories.
The country is developing its tourist industry and is still quite off the radar - but really beautiful, lots to do etc. I'm thinking about approaching a few tour companies and asking if I can tag along on a tour for a reduced price in exchange for a couple of stories (I have two or three good outlets who will buy stories).
Has anyone had experience of this? Is it the done thing? Just wondering if I'll come across as a bit cheeky. Or is it a case of don't ask don't get?
