Ds (2.2) gets up at 6am.
I am up by 6.45.
Drop him off at nursery at 8am.
Only 20 mins to get you and the children ready - wow - I am impressed.

It takes us an hour - both to have a wash, both dressed, both breakfast, both brush teeth, me blow dry hair & put on tiny amount make up.
An hour atleast !

But ds sleeps at nursey.
Of course you don't want your children to be tired.
But, any child getting up at 7, on a school day is not unreasonable.
That would give you an hour.
More relaxed, maybe.

What do you think ?

blueteddy · 21/04/2006 08:25

I start work at 8.50am & get myself & both DS's up at 7am.

bonkerz · 21/04/2006 08:27

i start work at 7.30am and generally get up at 6.45, get baby dressed, then wash me and DS, DS goes down for brekkie while i get dressed then i iron his clothes and get him dressed. All 3 of us ready in 30 mins!

Uwila · 21/04/2006 08:29

I get DD and DS up at 6:00. They hang out in my room while I get ready for work / play with them. Hand over to nanny at 6:30. I finish getting ready and am out the door for 7:00 to arrive at work 7:30 or 8:00 (depending on traffic).

It is not selfish to want to work. How old are your kids?

Uwila · 21/04/2006 08:31

I'm impressed, Bonkerz! I get up at 5:30 to get out of the house by 7:00. And, I don't even have to dress, feed, wash the kids.

FairyMum · 21/04/2006 08:34

My children naturally wake at 7. I don't think it's particularly early. Put them to bed early.

Blandmum · 21/04/2006 08:36
  1. We also have to be up and out by 7.40. We make sure that they are not too tired by putting them to bed earlier
Tortington · 21/04/2006 08:56

my teenagers go to bed at 10. they get up at 7.30 they are out of the house by 8 to 8.15 they then walk to school.

my husband the glorious man he is, irons the uniforms on a monday ( the kids hang them up afterschool everyday) he makes the sandwiches when he gets up at 5am

he leaves the house for 7.15 when he wakes me.

i leave the house at 8.30 - 9pm depending on how enthusuastic i feel.

also - will this place do flexi time?

Bugsy2 · 21/04/2006 09:04

I have to be a work by 9am but it is a 45 min commute & I have to drop dd off at nursery first. She & I leave the house at 7.50am, so only 10 mins earlier than you are contemplating ssd.
Are you going to be able to get your children into pre-school club or are you dropping them off at a friends? Also what age are your children?

ssd · 21/04/2006 12:06

they are 4 and 8 and are going to a childminders.

both aren't great sleepers and oldest finds it hard to sleep before 9pm.

Oh, they are deffo old enough for you to return to work. What's the job? Are you looking forward to it? If I remember correctly, the money will come in handy, too.

Flossam · 21/04/2006 12:25

I have been getting up at 6.30 - getting DS up at 7. DS ready for 7.45- I then also leave to try and arrive at work for 9 on the bus. Have been managing not too bad so far. Smile

fairyjay · 21/04/2006 12:38

I get up at 6, kids at 6.15. We all leave the house at 7.30. I prefer us to have more time to shower, breakfast and get organised, rather than rush.

I do try to get my two to bed for 9 though, which at 12 and 14 doesn't go down too well!

ssd · 21/04/2006 13:05

Uwila it's a nanny job.

And you're right, the money will come in very handy!

I should just get on with it, problem is I think I've lost some confidence being out of the work place for so long.

Oh, go for it SSD. And treat yourself to one dinner out every month for your hard work. Do it do it do it. Grin

Your kids are plenty old to find some independence. Really, it may actually be good for them. Besides, if you start and you hate it, you can always give notice.

So, what is the job like? Good pay? Nice kids? Ages? You've been a nanny before, haven't you?

6.45 (we get up at 6.20) and leave at 7.10, I drop off his dad at the railway station and then ds at 7.30 (he gets his breakfast at nursery).

ssd · 21/04/2006 20:49

Thanks for the encouragement Uwila Grin

It's looking after 3 little ones between 1 and 5, so it'll be fun and hard work at the same time!!It'll be for 4 days a week.

You're right in saying my 2 could benefit from some independance, sometimes I feel my being at home makes them too reliant on me.

And God I can't imagine actually having some spare cash!!That'd be a first!
