Meeting boss tomorrow - any tips?

I am due back in 6 weeks.
Before I left to have DD2 I was doing 4 days a week.
I have written to employer to say I would like to do 3 days a week and reduce my hours a day from 9.30 - 6 to 10 - 5pm. I explained why I wanted this and how I felt it would best serve him and my family this way. He said on the telephone that he's sure we can work something out and I'm going to meet him tomorrow. Any tips on making sure I get the hours / days I want?

I'll just bump this for you and I'm going to come back tomorrow to see how you got on!

Sounds like he is willing to agree to your request. I went in with a clear view on how this would affect my workload and how that could be managed. Just be willing to be flexible and it sounds like you will be fine. Best of luck. Smile

I agree with Beansprout, you have done the right (professional) thing by showing you have thought carefully about your proposition for both them and you. You boss has reacted openly with his 'we can work something out' comment.
I got a similar reaction when I went from 4 days to 3 after my second. When I got to the meeting, I went armed with a few different ideas as to how my new hours may result in a slightly different role and how that was important to the company. My boss also had some ideas that I hadn't thought of and it all worked out.
All I would say is go in with ideas, be flexible, and don't react instantly if you hear something you don't like. Try a 'well that's interesting, I hadn't thought of that' and then don't expand further or commit yourself to something your unsure of before you've had time to think about it properly.
Also, good luck, just be calm and confident! :)

Wehey! Congratulations and well done. When do you go back? Are you looking forward to it? Good luck x

Thankyou so much. 6 weeks to go. He asked me to go back earlier. I told him I's see what I could do with the childminder but have no intention of doing so, no way. I'm not looking forward to going back, not at all, but I'm sure once I'm there and everyone is settled into a routine etc it'll be fine. I enjoyed my job before and having 3 days a week where I do something else other will be great, eventually.
Thanks Bramblina Smile
